Fur Tor

Devon

Fur Tor is a modest but distinctive granite summit set in the heart of Dartmoor's high country. At 572 metres it commands the surrounding moorland, with views that stretch across the central plateau and towards the tors that punctuate the horizon in most directions.

The approach is across open moorland, often boggy, and the tor itself is a modest outcrop of weathered granite rather than a dramatic peak. Its isolation and the bleakness of its setting give it a quiet presence. The walk rewards those who seek the deeper moor rather than the more famous summits.
