Black-a-ven Brook

Dartmoor Forest, Devon

The Black-a-ven Brook runs off the northern moor below East Mill Tor, in the open country south of Okehampton. It flows generally north-east down a shallow valley to meet the East Okement River at Cullever Steps, a much-visited ford and moorland crossing near Belstone.

Like its neighbour the Red-a-ven, much of its course lies within the Okehampton military training area. The ground around it is dotted with old boundary stones marking former claims to this stretch of the moor.
