A cairn sits on the summit of Corndon Tor, a prominent outcrop on Dartmoor's high ground. The cairn itself is a Bronze Age burial monument, built from stacked stone as a marker and resting place for the dead. Its exact age is uncertain, as is often the case with Dartmoor's barrows, but it belongs to a period when burial cairns were a common sight across the upland landscape, from roughly 2000 BC onwards.
Today the cairn remains as a low, weathered heap of stone. The tor itself commands wide views across the moor and makes a natural destination for walkers. Standing here, you can see how people of the Bronze Age chose significant landmarks and high places for their monuments, and how those same hills still draw us to them today.
