Dartmeet

Dartmeet is exactly what its name says: the place where the East Dart and the West Dart come together and run on as the Dart proper. It is one of the most visited spots on the moor and has been a destination for as long as people have come to Dartmoor for pleasure, which makes it busy in summer and quite lovely out of season. The old clapper bridge lies broken in the river beside the road bridge, its great granite slabs thrown down by a flood long ago and never put back.

The setting is the attraction: two rivers, a wooded valley, and open moor rising on all sides. Paths follow both Darts away from the crowds within a few minutes, and the walk downstream past Combestone Tor or upstream towards Babeny quickly leaves the car park behind. Above the meeting of the waters lies Yar Tor and the ancient tenement farms of the central moor, some of which have been worked since medieval times.
