Combestone Tor

Combestone Tor rises to about 359 metres on the south moor between Dartmeet and Holne, with the Dart valley falling away to the north and long views across the surrounding hills. The summit is formed of at least three distinct granite outcrops that run like an avenue along a gentle spur. What sets it apart are the rock basins scattered across the rocks, some still forming and others broken with age; two particularly large examples on tilted fallen slabs measure around 57cm by 53cm and 37cm by 35cm. An OS benchmark cut into the south face marks its recorded height. The tor has its own car park just 30 metres away, making it one of the easiest tors on Dartmoor to reach.
