The Devonshire Association

The Devonshire Association is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation dedicated to the study and exchange of information and ideas on all matters concerning the county of Devon, in particular the cultural identity of the county and its distinctiveness, through research, recording and publication. It was founded in 1862 and is registered charity 1209194.

It has an annually elected President, an Executive Committee, six regional branches (Bideford and North Devon, East Devon, Exeter, Plymouth and District, South Devon, and Tavistock and West Devon) and eight specialist sections: Botany, Buildings, Entomology, Geology, History, Industrial Archaeology, Literature and Art, and Music and Folklore.

Its Transactions have been published since 1862 and are a main source for Dartmoor study. The Association also keeps a Devon folklore index and an online collection of people pages. R. Hansford Worth wrote more than 50 papers for the Transactions, and Robert Burnard was a member. The full text of Worth's Dartmoor is available on the Association's website.
