Transactions of the Devonshire Association
Silverton, Exeter, Devon
The Devonshire Association is a hub of historical, scientific, artistic and literary enquiry, and its annual volumes of Transactions are among its main achievements. More than 150 volumes have been published since 1862, containing well over 2,000 peer-reviewed papers and a similar number of reports from the Association's sections. The Association describes the series as the greatest single repository of information about the county.
Dartmoor runs through it. R. Hansford Worth published more than 50 papers in the Transactions between 1898 and 1950, including the stone rows series, and Robert Burnard and the Dartmoor Exploration Committee reported their excavations in it.
Scanned copies of the volumes from 1862 to 1920 are free on the Internet Archive, apart from four missing volumes. The General Indices for 1862 to 1968 are available as one 588 page file. A list of the titles of all papers is on the Association's website, and abstracts are available for every paper since 1999. Anyone may submit a paper, member or not, as long as it deals with a Devon topic.
