Winter Tor sits on the northern edge of Dartmoor at around 420 metres, on the slopes below Belstone Tor and Higher Tor. It is made up of three frost-parted granite slabs, much broken on the west side where loose stones scatter down to the river, but forming a more symmetrical face on the east. Stone cutters have left their marks on the rocks here, taking advantage of the tor's proximity to the moor edge. The tor is best reached via the path from Cullever Steps, and offers good views across the East Okement Valley, though most walkers treat it as a brief stop on the way up to the higher tors above.
