Birch Tor stands as a quiet granite outcrop on the central plateau of Dartmoor, reaching 487 metres above sea level. Its modest but distinctive rocks command views across the wide moorland landscape, with the sense of exposure and space that defines this part of the moor.
The tor is well placed for walkers combining several valleys and ridge routes. The approach is across open ground with few natural obstacles, making it a straightforward destination on foot. Like much of Dartmoor's higher ground, the moorland here feels windswept and exposed, with the character of the granite bedrock visible in the surrounding terrain.
