North Hessary Tor

Devon

North Hessary Tor rises above Princetown in the heart of Dartmoor Forest, a modest granite summit at 517 metres. The tor is one of the perambulation points that have defined the Forest of Dartmoor's boundaries for centuries, a measure of its long significance in the landscape.

The tor sits just above Dartmoor Prison, making it a distinctive landmark in this high, windswept part of the moor. From the summit, views extend across the central plateau and surrounding moorland. The walk here passes through typical Dartmoor terrain, with open grassland and granite outcrops characteristic of this exposed upland setting.
