Easdon Tor

Grid ref: SX 7294 8230

Easdon Tor crowns a stretch of moorland south of North Bovey, its granite worn down to broken rock ridges topped by an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar. At 439 metres it commands panoramic views across north-east Dartmoor, taking in Hameldown to the south-west and the twin bosses of Hey Tor Rocks. The tor itself is in an advanced state of ruin, but the isolation and prospect make it worthwhile. A short walk from Manaton via quiet lanes and farm paths reaches the summit without any military firing nearby, and a benchmark cut into rock beside the trig once served 19th and 20th century surveyors.
