South Hessary Tor

South Hessary Tor stands as a distinctive granite summit on Dartmoor's high ground, reaching 452 metres above sea level. Its position on the moor makes it a natural waypoint for walkers crossing the central plateau, with clear views north, south and east across open moorland, blanket bog and distant ridges.
The tor itself is relatively modest in its granite outcrops, but the elevated plateau around it offers the kind of open walking that defines Dartmoor's character. The approach is moorland throughout, with weather and visibility being the main variables on the walk. In clear conditions the views extend across significant stretches of the park and beyond to the surrounding Devon landscape.
