Round cairn near Birch Tor

This scheduled monument comprises a Bronze Age round cairn and a boundary stone that once marked the edge of Headland Warren, a medieval enclosed land use on the open moor. The cairn sits in the moorland landscape 210 metres north of Birch Tor, part of the complex pattern of ancient and medieval activity that shaped Dartmoor's archaeology.

Boundary stones like this one are characteristic features of Dartmoor's warren system, when areas of moorland were temporarily enclosed and managed for grazing or other resources.
