This scheduled monument comprises a Bronze Age cairnfield, unenclosed stone hut circle settlement, and a boundary stone situated in the moorland south west of a ford on the Small Brook. The hut circles and cairns speak to a period of sustained settlement and land use on the open moor, when upland areas of Dartmoor supported farming communities. The boundary stone marks territorial divisions of the prehistoric or later landscape.
Today the site lies among rough grassland and heather, characteristic of the high moor. The stone remains are low but distinct to a walker who knows what to look for: circular foundations of dry stone, scattered cairns, and the upright marker stone. It is a quieter landscape than the lower slopes of Dartmoor, and visiting involves a real sense of the ancient, working moorland.
