Cairnfield, huts and T boundary stone above Taw Marsh

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1016641) describes a cairnfield, an unenclosed hut circle settlement and a post-medieval boundary stone on a gentle north-west-facing slope overlooking Taw Marsh. The scheduling falls into three areas. It lies across the parishes of Dartmoor Forest and South Tawton, about 1 km north-east of Oke Tor and 3.2 km south of Belstone.

The cairnfield has 21 mounds, 0.4 to 0.8 metres high. Sixteen are circular, 2.6 to 6.5 metres across, and the rest oval, up to 8 metres by 4 metres. One has a well-preserved kerb and another has been partly robbed or dug by early antiquarians. The three huts are circular or oval banks round spaces of 11 to 38 square metres with walls 0.25 to 0.35 metres high, two with visible doorways. They survive as earthworks with the odd upright stone showing. The boundary stone stands on the boundary between South Tawton and Dartmoor Forest parishes. It is 1.3 metres long, 0.4 metres wide and 0.3 metres thick, leans to the north-north-west at 40 degrees from vertical, and has the letter T cut on its north-east face.
