Prehistoric settlement

Legis Tor holds evidence of human activity spanning thousands of years. The Bronze Age settlement and three round cairns are among the oldest monuments on Dartmoor, marking a time when communities lived and worked on the open moor. The cairns, built as burial or ceremonial structures, still stand as silent witnesses to prehistoric life.

Later, in post-medieval times, a rabbit warren was established here. On the moor today you will find earthworks and stone structures scattered across the landscape, part of the complex story of how people have used this high ground. The site sits within the wider pattern of Bronze Age settlement that gives Dartmoor much of its character and archaeological richness.
