Enclosures

This scheduled monument preserves the remains of a Bronze Age settlement comprising hut circles and associated field enclosures. The site sits on open moorland north of Tory Brook Head, where low stone foundations and earthwork boundaries mark the footprint of domestic life from the second millennium BC. The hut circles would once have sheltered families; the enclosures suggest pastoral activity and land management across the surrounding slopes.

Today the site appears as low stone rings and banks in the heather and grass, easily missed but rewarding to those who know what to look for. It forms part of the wider pattern of prehistoric settlement scattered across Dartmoor's upland landscape, evidence of how Bronze Age communities adapted to and shaped this high moorland.
