Little Trowlesworthy Tor

Little Trowlesworthy Tor sits on the slopes of Penn Moor and Lee Moor as a single ridge of broken granite, with most of the outcrops concentrated to the west. The stone here shows distinctive pink and red granite fragments peculiar to this south-westerly edge of the high moor. The slopes hold an exceptional collection of historic sites: Bronze Age hut circles, vermin traps, pillow mounds, and stone circles. Most curious is a large cylindrical rock known locally as 'The Bandstand', an over-ambitious nineteenth-century attempt to carve a flagpole base for Devonport Dockyard that proved too heavy to transport. The views reach north into the Plym Valley and west towards the Tamar and East Cornwall.
