Hut circle village 600yds (548m) SE of Swincombe

This hut circle village is a Bronze Age settlement, one of many that cluster on Dartmoor's moorland. The site consists of the remains of several roundhouses, their stone foundations and enclosures still visible in the turf. These dwellings date to the later Bronze Age, when families and small communities built their homes on the open moor, taking advantage of the higher ground for grazing stock and access to resources.
Today the site sits in quiet moorland country southeast of Swincombe, in the landscape these ancient inhabitants knew. To visit is to stand where people lived 3,000 years ago, their daily patterns set by the seasons and the terrain around them. The remains are modest but tangible, and their presence speaks to a time when Dartmoor was actively settled and worked.
