Hut circle

This scheduled monument comprises the remains of prehistoric hut circles and an associated field system, evidence of Bronze Age settlement on the Dartmoor uplands. The hut circles are the foundations of round houses, their stone walls now low banks in the moorland turf. The surrounding fields, marked by parallel banks and boundaries, show how people organised the landscape around their homes.

Today the site sits on open moorland northwest of Saddle Bridge, part of the densely settled prehistoric zones that characterise much of central Dartmoor. Walking here, you move through a landscape shaped by people thousands of years ago, their marks still legible in the contours of the land.
