Cairnfield above the Blackaton Brook, west of Stoneyhurst

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1017287) describes a cairnfield on a gentle east-facing slope above the valley of the Blackaton Brook. It is a cluster of at least 25 mounds 0.4 to 0.8 metres high. Fourteen are circular, 3 to 6.9 metres across, and the rest ovoid, 4 to 10.2 metres long. One mound has a kerb of edge-set stones and is ringed by a platform 1.5 metres wide and 0.3 metres high. It is probably a burial cairn and has been damaged by robbing or an early partial dig. Two lengths of rubble walling inside the monument suggest a field system was being laid out before the area was left. It lies in the parish of South Tawton, about 1.6 km north-west of Shilstone Tor and 2.1 km west of Throwleigh.
