Unenclosed stone hut settlement south-west of Gutter Tor

This scheduled monument consists of the remains of several stone huts scattered across unenclosed moorland south-west of Gutter Tor. The settlement likely dates to the Bronze Age, when such clusters of round dwellings were common across Dartmoor's higher ground. The huts would have housed families engaged in pastoral farming and stock herding on the open moor.

Today the site presents as a pattern of low stone foundations and rubble spreads, best understood on the ground where the individual hut circles become apparent. Like many such settlements on Dartmoor, it offers a tangible connection to Bronze Age life on the moor and the long history of human habitation in this landscape.
