This stone hut circle sits on the open moorland south east of Hartland Tor, one of many such remains scattered across Dartmoor. Dating to the Bronze Age, it represents the domestic settlement of Dartmoor's early inhabitants who lived and herded livestock on the high moor when the climate and landscape were markedly different from today.
The visible stone foundations mark where a circular dwelling once stood. Walking the moor here, you encounter the physical traces of ancient life: patient stones arranged for shelter and warmth, now weathered by centuries of exposure. These circles are scheduled monuments, protected for their archaeological and historical value, anchoring us to the people who knew this landscape long before the present moorland took its modern form.
