Hut circle near Hentor Brook

This scheduled monument is a Bronze Age hut circle, the stone foundation of a prehistoric roundhouse that once stood on Dartmoor's exposed moorland. Such structures are among the most common archaeological remains on the moor, evidence of communities who grazed livestock and farmed here over three thousand years ago. The circular stone wall marks where a timber-framed dwelling once provided shelter.

Today the site sits on open moor north of Hentor Brook, part of the wider landscape of ancient settlements, field systems and cairns that tell the story of Dartmoor's long human occupation. Visiting involves walking rough moorland; the circle itself is modest but speaks to the resilience of those who made their homes in this demanding terrain.
