Hut circle near Beardown Man

This hut circle is one of several Bronze Age structures scattered across the eastern slope of Conies Down Tor, forming part of a dispersed settlement that once occupied this corner of the moor. Stone circles and hut circles like this one tell the story of how people lived and worked on Dartmoor during the Bronze Age, building their homes from the granite that surrounded them.

Today the remains are subtle, best read as a low stone ring in the moorland turf. The site sits within the wider landscape of Beardown Man and the settlements that cluster around this high ground, offering walkers a sense of how extensively the moor was inhabited in prehistoric times. This is a Scheduled Monument and part of Dartmoor's protected archaeology.
