This scheduled monument is a round cairn, a burial mound built during the Bronze Age when Dartmoor's uplands were actively settled and farmed. The cairn sits on Black Down at around 410 metres south west of Anthony Stile, in country that rises and opens across the moor. Such cairns are found across Dartmoor and speak to a period when the landscape was managed, lived in, and marked with monuments to the dead.
Today the cairn is visible as a low stony mound in the moorland setting. Like many such sites, it has weathered thousands of years of exposure on the high moor.
