Holwell Tor

Devon

Holwell Tor is a small granite outcrop on the northern reaches of Dartmoor, sitting quietly among the open heathland and grassland that characterises this part of the moor. Like many of Dartmoor's lesser known tors, it lacks the dramatic scale of the more famous peaks, but offers a genuine sense of place and the straightforward walking the moor provides.

The approach across the surrounding moorland gives you the lie of the land and the chance to spot the granite bones of Dartmoor emerging from the turf. This is walking country that rewards a steady pace and an eye for the landscape. The views from Holwell Tor look out across the moor towards higher ground, and it makes a good stopping point on a longer moorland walk.
