Roughtor parallel reave is a scheduled monument on the high moorland of Bodmin Moor, forming part of the extensive Bronze Age landscape that characterises this part of Devon and Cornwall. A reave is a substantial boundary bank, and parallel reaves like this one represent ancient field divisions, probably constructed during the later Bronze Age when the moor supported more intensive settlement and agriculture than it does today.
The site consists of parallel lines of stone running across the moor, marking the edges of long narrow fields. Walking here, you can trace these banks across the open ground and sense the scale of the organised land management that once shaped this landscape. It remains one of many such systems visible on Dartmoor and the surrounding uplands, offering insight into how Bronze Age communities divided and used the moorland.
