Longtimber Tor

Longtimber Tor is a substantial granite mass that rises from level ground beside the River Tavy. The rock is square-shaped with perpendicular sides and bears a genuine resemblance to the keep of a ruined castle, though vegetation has almost entirely claimed it. Oak and beech grow thick across the outcrop, with ivy and soft moss covering the darker north face. If the rock is dry you can reach the top and look down through the oak canopy. The River Tavy beside it is lovely for a wild swim, and there is a smaller outcrop right on the river bank. The walk from Peter Tavy is straightforward, and from the summit you can see across to Smeardon Down and Boulters Tor.
