Longtimber Tor

Longtimber Tor is a modest granite outcrop on the open moor of central Dartmoor, standing at 165 metres above sea level. Its name speaks to its setting among the wide, rolling heathland that characterises this part of the moor. The tor itself is granite, weathered and relatively low-key compared to Dartmoor's more dramatic high points, but it commands views across the surrounding moorland and makes for an easy, unhurried walk.

The approach is straightforward across open moorland with no steep scrambles required. Its position makes it a good waypoint on longer moorland walks or a quiet spot to pause and look out across the moor's horizons. Like much of central Dartmoor, the landscape around Longtimber Tor rewards slow, attentive walking and rewards those who take time to notice the subtler patterns of the moorland itself.
