Wheal Katherine forms part of the Eylesbarrow tin mining complex, one of the larger industrial sites on central Dartmoor. The workings here date to the period when tin mining shaped the high moor, leaving behind characteristic waste heaps, shafts, and surface disturbance across the landscape.
Today the site is visible as earthworks and spoil among the moorland. Like many Dartmoor tin mines, it offers a window into the labour and enterprise that sustained communities here for centuries. The surrounding terrain and scattered remains tell the story of extraction and processing that once made this corner of the moor hum with activity.
