Chinkwell Tor
Devon
Chinkwell Tor rises on the high ground of central Dartmoor, marked by two cairns at its summit. At 458 metres, it commands views across a landscape densely scattered with other tors and granite outcrops. The tor sits within a remarkable cluster of peaks: Bell Tor, Honeybag Tor, Hameldown and Great Houndtor all lie nearby, creating a dramatic skyline when viewed from the surrounding moorland.
The walk to Chinkwell Tor takes you across open moor, typical of Dartmoor's high plateau. This is country for those who want to move between tors, linking viewpoints and granite features. Widecombe-in-the-Moor village lies within reach to the north, making the tor accessible from several walking routes that explore this concentrated and rewarding section of the moor.
