Hound Tor

Devon

This is the famous one - there is another with the same name.

Hound Tor is a heavily weathered granite outcrop standing about 419 metres, easily reached from the B3387 between Bovey Tracey and Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The tor itself consists of massive granite stacks and boulders that make it popular for scrambling and climbing. A nearby car park, just 150 metres away, makes it very accessible, though this popularity does mean the site attracts crowds and litter. The views from the top reach across to Haytor and beyond, and there are no military firing areas to worry about.
