Enclosure with two hut circles beside Raddick Lane

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1009086) describes an enclosure containing two stone hut circles on a gentle south-west-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Meavy, an outlying part of a larger settlement. The enclosure is an oval 55 metres long and 43 metres wide, bounded by a double-faced rubble wall 1.5 metres wide and 0.5 metres high, which is lynchetted along the south and stands up to 1.2 metres high there. A short stretch of the east side was damaged when Raddick Lane was made and now survives as a buried feature. It lies in the parish of Walkhampton, about 1 km north-west of Down Tor and 3.1 km north-east of Sheepstor.

The huts are banks of stone and earth around circular inner areas. The northern hut is 8 metres across inside, with a wall 1.7 metres wide and up to 0.7 metres high and a doorway 1.5 metres wide facing west-south-west. The southern hut is 5.6 metres across, with a rubble bank 1.4 metres wide and 0.4 metres high. A post-medieval drystone wall that cuts across the enclosure is left out of the scheduling, though the ground under it is included.
