Down Tor rises to 366 metres above Walkhampton, its slopes scattered with enormous granite slabs in a state of precarious balance that has remained unchanged for thousands of years. The tor commands some of the best views on Dartmoor, looking across Burrator Reservoir and towards Sheeps Tor and Leather Tor. The approach from Norsworthy Bridge involves several false summits before reaching the top. A stone row lies to the north of the tor, and this corner of the moor lies outside the military ranges.
