Agglomerated enclosed settlement near Stoneyhurst

This is an agglomerated enclosed settlement, a form of Bronze Age or Iron Age dwelling found across Dartmoor's higher ground. The site lies 480 metres west of Stoneyhurst, in open moorland typical of the upland settlements that once dotted these valleys and slopes. Visitors will find the earthwork remains of the enclosure and grouped dwellings, their forms still visible in the turf and stone, marking a place where families lived and worked centuries ago.

Such settlements reflect a period when Dartmoor was more densely inhabited than later ages. The enclosure would have offered some shelter and security for livestock and people. Walking the moor here, you can trace the layout and imagine the domestic life that unfolded within these bounds, part of a broader pattern of occupation that shaped the moorland landscape we see today.
