Hut circle settlement near Leather Tor

This Bronze Age or Iron Age settlement consists of stone hut circles scattered across the moorland north-east of Leather Tor. The circular foundations and low stone walls are typical of domestic structures built by Dartmoor's ancient inhabitants, who farmed these upland slopes when the climate and vegetation were kinder to settlement than today.

Visiting the site means walking into an inhabited Bronze Age landscape. The huts cluster together as they would have stood, their stones still marking out the domestic spaces of families who lived and worked here centuries ago. The wider moorland context, with its tors, streams and open grazing, remains largely unchanged.
