A prehistoric settlement complex, length of reave, tin streamwork and stamping mill on the western slopes of Cosdon Hill

This scheduled monument preserves layers of Dartmoor's working past. Bronze Age or Iron Age settlement remains are scattered across the hillside, with evidence of substantial reaves (field boundaries) that once organised the upland landscape. Medieval tin streamers later worked the same ground, exploiting the alluvial deposits in the valleys, and the tin industry left its own mark with a stamping mill for processing ore.
Today the site is largely open moorland with buried and surface archaeology. Walking here, you move across ground that has been shaped and reshaped by different communities separated by centuries, each responding to Dartmoor's resources and conditions. The reaves in particular reveal how ancient people structured their upland world.
