Bidlake Mill and leat

Bidlake Mill is a scheduled monument comprising the ruins of a mill building and the leat, or artificial watercourse, that once powered it. The site sits in the landscape between working moorland and the valleys that drain Dartmoor, places where water mills were essential to the local economy for grinding grain or processing other materials. The surviving earthworks and stonework show where the leat was cut to channel water downslope toward the mill.
Today the site is largely unexcavated and requires close observation to read. Visitors will find stone foundations, fragmentary remains, and the line of the leat traced across the ground. The setting is quiet and relatively unvisited, offering insight into how the medieval and early modern moor and its margins were shaped by human work and enterprise.
