Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1021102) describes a wayside cross on a ridge between the Holy Brook and the River Mardle. It stands on a triangular road island beside an old tree called Stumpy Oak, and is one of several crosses that mark the Monks' Path, a route linking the medieval abbeys of Buckfast, Tavistock and Buckland. Other crosses on that route have their own schedulings. It lies in the parish of West Buckfastleigh, about 0.7 km south-east of Scorriton.
The cross has a socket stone, a mostly modern shaft with a short length of original shaft, and the head and arms. The socket stone lies mostly buried under the turf and carries a Latin cross 2.18 metres high. The modern shaft is 0.36 metres by 0.34 metres at the base and 0.28 metres by 0.29 metres at the top. The arms are 0.8 metres wide and the head is 0.27 metres high. The Dartmoor Preservation Association restored the cross in 1952. It is also listed Grade II.
