This scheduled monument at Outcombe preserves evidence of tin working and milling from the post-medieval period, when Dartmoor's mineral wealth was actively exploited. The site brings together the scattered remains of extractive industry and agricultural settlement, typical of how moorland communities combined farming with opportunistic mining.
Today the landscape shows the physical traces of these activities: earthworks from the tinwork, the outline of the mill structure, and the foundations or platforms of farm buildings. The site sits on the eastern fringe of Roughtor Plantation, where moorland opens out across this working corner of Dartmoor. It forms part of the wider pattern of tin and copper extraction that shaped the moor's economy and topography.
