This scheduled monument preserves the physical traces of tin processing on Dartmoor. The blowing house would have been used to smelt tin ore, while the adjacent mill processed mineral-bearing stream sediment. These structures belong to a period when tin extraction shaped the moorland economy and landscape, leaving scattered evidence across Dartmoor of the industry that once sustained local communities.
Today the site is a ruin in the working moor. Visitors walking this part of Dartmoor will find the remains integral to understanding how the landscape was used and changed. The location, near flowing water essential for both milling and processing, reveals the practical logic of medieval and later mining activity on the moor.
