Round cairn 470m south east of Sourton Tors

This round cairn dates from the Bronze Age, when burial mounds marked the moorland and served as monuments to the dead. Today it appears as a low, stony mound in the open country south east of Sourton Tors. Like many of Dartmoor's cairns, it has been worked over by centuries of moorland use, yet its form remains recognisable to anyone who knows what to look for.
The site sits within the high, rolling terrain that characterises central Dartmoor. Walking here gives a sense of how these monuments once dotted the moor, and how they still anchor the landscape with fragments of deep time. It is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological importance.
