Wigford Down sits in the southwestern corner of Dartmoor, just north of Shaugh Prior. At 271 metres, it is a modest height with a substantial cairn at the summit. The walk from Cadover Bridge takes about 15 minutes and is straightforward. From the top you can see in all directions: Plymouth Sound lies to the south, Cox Tor and Sheeps Tor stand to the north, and to the east the clay works around Lee Moor and Shell Top are plainly visible. There are no military firing areas in this part of the moor.
