Shell Top

Devon

Shell Top is a small granite tor set among the open moorland of central Dartmoor. Its rocky outcrops have the weathered, rounded character typical of Dartmoor's granite peaks, worn smooth by centuries of wind and weather. The tor sits in relatively accessible terrain, making it a natural waypoint on a moorland walk rather than a destination demanding scrambling or special effort.

The surrounding landscape is quintessential Dartmoor: heather, grass and stone stretching towards the horizon. The approaches are straightforward, with good views across the moorland plateau and useful sight lines to other nearby features. It is the kind of tor that rewards the walker who takes time to look, rather than one that dominates the skyline.
