Whitehorse Hill

Whitehorse Hill stands at 601 metres in the heart of Dartmoor's high ground, crowned by a prehistoric burial mound surrounded by white stones that has attracted serious archaeological study in recent years. The mound sits within the Okehampton Firing Range. Reaching the summit means crossing peat bog from whichever direction you choose: Cranmere Pool to the west feeds the East Dart and Taw rivers, the Walla Brook rises to the east, and the approach from Hangingstone Hill is shorter but still peaty. The peat pass cutting through to the east offers the most established route. The reward is wide views across to Fernworthy Forest, the Princetown mast, and Cut Hill.
