Sittaford Tor

Sittaford Tor is a prominent granite peak on the high ground of northern Dartmoor, standing at 538 metres above sea level. The tor commands a commanding position on the open moor, its rocky outcrop visible for some distance across the surrounding plateau. The stone has the characteristic weathered grey granite common to Dartmoor's high tors, exposed and wind-shaped by centuries on the moor.

The approach to Sittaford is across open moorland, typically accessible from tracks that cross the high ground. The setting is bleak and spacious, with views extending across the moor in all directions. The walk is straightforward by Dartmoor standards, making it a natural stop on journeys across the northern plateau. The tor marks a clear landmark in an otherwise rolling landscape of heather, grass and stone.
