Two cairns on the summit of Water Hill near Warren House Inn

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1019225) describes two round cairns, in a line from north-north-west to south-south-east, and a historic shelter on the summit of Water Hill, with views over much of central Dartmoor. The southern cairn is a flat-topped mound 18 metres across and up to 1.5 metres high, topped by a modern stone pile 1.3 metres high. A large slab on the south side of the pile may once have been part of a cist. A slight rim round the summit may be a buried kerb or later disturbance, and a band of rushes 3 metres wide beside the north-east side may mark the ditch from which the mound was quarried. The northern cairn lies 6.4 metres from it and is 5.5 metres across and up to 0.7 metres high. The shelter is built into the north-east side of the big cairn, a three-sided structure 2 metres by 1.6 metres faced with drystone walling up to 0.45 metres high. It lies across the parishes of Dartmoor Forest and Chagford, about 1.5 km west of Birch Tor and 2.9 km north-west of Challacombe.
