Ring cairn near Cawsand Beacon

Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1010770) describes a ring cairn and cist on the summit ridge of Cawsand or Cosdon Hill. It is part of a cemetery of at least two round cairns, two ring cairns and one platform cairn. The bank is a rubble earthwork 2 metres wide and 0.4 metres high, faced with close-set stones on its outer edge, around a circular space 18 metres east to west by 17 metres north to south. In the middle is a mound 6 metres across and 0.2 metres high holding a stone cist, of which two slabs survive. It lies in the parish of South Tawton, about 1.4 km south-east of Ladybrook Tor and 2.5 km south-west of South Zeal.

Rowe visited and described this cist in the first half of the 19th century, when it included a structure eight feet square that seemed to show traces of an inner coffin.
