Mel Tor

Mel Tor sits between Bel Tor and Sharp Tor, commanding the Dart Valley floor some 600 feet below. The name comes from 'mil', meaning middle, as this pile stands intermediate between its two neighbours. The summit is marked by small, irregular rock basins that collect rainwater, and a fine millstone can be found on the south side, evidence of stone cutting that once took place here. The tor spreads across woodland slopes with substantial outcrops scattered south and west. A five-minute walk from Bel Tor car park makes it one of Dartmoor's most accessible summits, with views down the valley and across to Venford Reservoir beyond.
