Hut circles SW of Wedlake

This is a Bronze Age settlement consisting of hut circles, the stone foundations of roundhouses that once stood on the open moor southwest of Wedlake. The circles are typical of Dartmoor's prehistoric landscape, where communities built clustered settlements to exploit the upland grazing and resources. Today they remain as low stone rings, often subtle in the heather and grass, marking where families lived and worked thousands of years ago.

The site sits within the broader pattern of Bronze Age settlement across Dartmoor, part of a landscape shaped by ancient farmers and herders. Walking here, you move through country much as those inhabitants knew it, though without their field systems and settlements now visible on every slope. The moor's openness and the circles' modest scale offer a sense of how people lived lightly on the high ground, adapting to exposure and distance.
