Doe Tor

Grid ref: SX 5420 8483

Doe Tor sits at about 425 metres on the north-western edge of Dartmoor, between the Walla Brook and Doetor Brook, just on the edge of Willsworthy Artillery Range. Though surrounded by grander neighbours, the tor reveals itself on closer inspection: three main outcrops spread across the hillside with excellent horizontal jointing, a striking rock basin, and curious poised boulders that can be made to tremble. Views south and west open across the verdant mosaic of fields towards Cornwall, though Brat Tor and Sharp Tor block the outlook in other directions. The clitter on the western slope makes for difficult walking but rewards exploration.
